Taking up a career in modeling after high school, Hendricks graced the pages of magazines such as Elle and Harper's Bazaar, before setting her sights on an acting career. She landed parts in a number of commercials and soon made her television debut in the television movie "Sorority" (1999). Showing a talent for her craft, she quickly landed small roles on MTV's "Undressed" (1999-2002) and the cult "Buffy the Vampire" spin-off, "Angel" (The WB, 1999-2004). Landing her first recurring role in 2000, Hendricks portrayed career-climbing intern Kelly Kramer on Showtime's short-lived showbiz satire "Beggars and Choosers" (1999-2001).She also had a recurring role (as the con artist Saffron) in the short-lived but beloved sci-fi show Firefly (2002). For the next five years she bounced around TV (including a run on the series Kevin Hill) before landing her part on Mad Men. As Joan, the office manager, she carried on an affair with partner Roger Sterling (played by John Slattery) and charmed clients while controlling the firm's secretaries with an iron girdle. (In season two she married doctor Greg Harris, changing her name from Joan Holloway to Joan Harris.) In real life, Hendricks married actor Geoffrey Arend on 11 October 2009.
Christina Hendricks Quotes:
"Everyone assumes we're always going to have a cocktail and a cigarette in hand. Fans expect us all to be dressed up all the time. They always say to me, 'You look so young. You don't seem as tall!"
" I sing a bit and I would like to pursue possibly doing a musical or something. I’m still plugging away at my accordion. I’m quite nerdy and goofy. Joan is so poised and pulled together. I’m sort of notorious for making a corn salad and forgetting the corn. But I’m getting much better."
"I've always been someone who really watches other people, human behavior. To watch it and be able to express it through your version has always been really exciting to me."
"I guess my mom raised me right. She was very celebratory of her body. I never heard her once say “I feel fat”. Back when I was modeling, the first time I went to Italy, I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15 pounds. And I felt gorgeous! I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like “Oh, I look like a woman”. And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, because I loved it."
